The HLTAID011 Provide First Aid course represents the current Australian standard for comprehensive first aid certification training. This nationally accredited first aid course incorporates current techniques and protocols aligned with the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines.
This accredited first aid certification training covers both theoretical knowledge and practical skills application. You’ll learn to provide a first aid response across various emergency situations, from minor injuries to life-threatening conditions. The course includes CPR training through the embedded HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation unit, ensuring you can perform CPR effectively when needed.
The HLTAID011 Provide First Aid course provides comprehensive coverage of emergency first aid response techniques required for professional first aid certification. You’ll develop first aid skills for managing casualties experiencing various medical emergencies, injuries, and trauma situations.
The course covers essential first aid topics including wound management, burns treatment, fracture stabilisation, and shock management. You’ll learn to assess casualties systematically, prioritise treatment, and provide appropriate first aid responses whilst waiting for professional medical assistance.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation forms a crucial component of this first aid and CPR course. The embedded HLTAID009 Provide CPR unit teaches you to recognise cardiac arrest, perform effective chest compressions, deliver rescue breaths, and use automated external defibrillators safely.
Your first aid certification depends on successfully demonstrating both knowledge and practical skills. Course participants must complete written assessments covering first aid theory, emergency response protocols, and legal considerations.
Practical assessments require you to demonstrate first aid skills in simulated emergency scenarios. You’ll show you can assess casualties, perform CPR effectively, apply bandages correctly, and manage various first aid emergencies confidently.
Upon successful completion, you’ll receive a Statement of Attainment for HLTAID011 Provide First Aid, along with HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. These nationally accredited certificates validate your first aid certification and remain current for three years, though annual CPR refresher training is recommended.
Your HLTAID011 Provide First Aid certificate remains valid for three years from your course completion date. However, maintaining current first aid certification requires the embedded HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation component to be renewed annually. This means you must complete CPR training every 12 months whilst your broader first aid qualification remains current.
Most workplaces require current first aid certification at all times. If your CPR certificate lapses, even by one day, you cannot legally act as a designated workplace first aider until you complete refresher training. The annual CPR course typically takes 2-3 hours and focuses specifically on cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques and automated external defibrillator use.
When your three-year HLTAID011 certificate expires, you must complete the full provide first aid course again. You cannot simply extend or renew an expired first aid certification. You need to demonstrate all competencies afresh through both written assessment and practical skills demonstration.
CPR involves checking for responsiveness, calling for help, positioning the casualty on a firm surface, placing hands correctly on the centre of the chest, and delivering continuous chest compressions at least 5cm deep at a rate of 100-120 compressions per minute. You’ll alternate 30 chest compressions with 2 rescue breaths if trained in mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
Yes, the HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation course is available as a standalone qualification. This focused CPR course covers cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques, automated external defibrillator use, and basic life support skills. However, most workplaces require the comprehensive HLTAID011 Provide First Aid qualification, which includes the CPR training plus extensive additional first aid skills.
